Everything you need to understand the rules, turn structure, and strategy of Ascension.

What is this game?

TEMPORARY_NAME is a digital board game with roguelike twists, built for game nights. Players share a table β€” each controlling a Hero β€” as they fight through a gauntlet of monsters drawn from an encounter deck. The goal is to reach the Throne before anyone else.

The twist: cooperation is optional. When a monster appears, you can fight it alone, ask others for help, or secretly root for the monster. You share the same board, but only one hero can claim the Throne.

The Core Tension

You need other players to survive β€” but every reward they earn puts them closer to winning. Decide carefully when to cooperate and when to betray.
Key Concepts
πŸƒ

Encounter Deck

A shared deck of monster, trap, and consumable cards. Each turn the active player draws from it. Everyone sees the consequences.

βš”οΈ

Fights

When a monster is drawn, the active player decides to fight solo or call for help. Other players can join either side β€” player or monster.

🎁

Rewards

Winning a fight yields reward cards. The fight initiator distributes them. Helpers get what was promised during the negotiation phase.

πŸ‘‘

The Throne

Win condition. Reach the required level before any other hero. Level up by winning fights. Lose a level on defeat.

βš—οΈ

Salt Mechanics

Each hero has unique Salt abilities β€” passive or active effects that trigger in specific fight situations. Read your hero's backstory page to learn theirs.

🏠

The Host

One player runs the lobby and controls game settings. Hosts own the installment β€” everyone else plays free through them.

Win Conditions

The game ends the moment any hero reaches the required level threshold for the installment. That hero claims the Throne and wins.

Levels are gained by winning fights as the initiator. Levels are lost on defeat. Helpers who join a fight do not gain or lose levels directly β€” only the initiator's level is affected by the outcome.

⚠️

Defeat Costs You

Losing a fight as the initiator costs you one level. If you're already at level 1, a defeat leaves you there β€” you cannot go below 1.
